Addison had a great day at the Section 9 FFA fair. She took 2 head of cattle and a bottle of maple syrup for Ag products. Her steer, Hopwood, was Champion purebred steer, Champion bred and owned steer, and Grand Champion overall market animal. Harley, her heifer, won Champion Hereford female, Grand Champion bred and owned female, and Reserve Grand overall female. She stood among some amazing showman in the Showmanship finals. Her maple syrup also received an A rating on her syrup.
Days like today help reinforce why the countless hours working hair, attention to detail, and practicing showmanship nightly is so important. Grandma Harriet’s earrings must be lucky!!
We are proud of you, Rosie!

EPG 3rd graders participated in Farm Day at Centennial. Students were able to interact with and learn about different farm animals as well as complete a chore simulation that required them to work together to get bags of feed, hay, straw, and water to various animals. Students also applied their math skills to determine the area and perimeter of different pens. Finally, they were able to learn about farm equipment and what each implement is used for.
A special thanks to Bloomberg Show Pigs for bringing pigs, Stoller International for the equipment, Greg and Sheila Watkins for the goats and farm dog, C&M Chinchilla and Small Animals Rescue for the bunny, Young Cattle Company for the cattle, and Early bird feed for the various animal feeds.
Addison attended the Illinois Beef Expo today to participate in the 4-H/FFA livestock judging contest. She placed 9th out of 137 kids. Her team was 3rd overall, what a great way to start off the season!
Fun Fact: In 1994, Yale (dad) placed 9th at the Illinois Beef Expo judging contest.
