YCC recently hosted the Illinois Hereford Association's 2023 Hereford Tour. We were thrilled to be a Sunday stop and share a great meal with fellow cattle enthusiasts.
In addition to the visitors it was great to have the AHA field man, President of the Illinois Beef Association, and the Illinois Hereford Queen in attendance on such a beautiful day.
After sorting through the cattle, visitors were welcomed down to the Sugar Shack where they could see where and how Young's Maple Syrup is made.
Finally, before hitting the road for the final stop of the tour, guests enjoyed a delicious meal and fellowship.
Young Cattle Company would like to thank all of those that organized the tour, hosted stops, and especially those that support YCC on a regular basis to help us run a successful operation.
Nolan Lee and Addison put in long hours at the wash rack to get the get the cattle on point.
If you are in the market for a quality heifer or bull, stop by.

We saw many familiar faces, caught up with old friends, and made new ones. All in all, it was a great week.
On the last day of the fair you can often catch youth in the barns with tears rolling down their faces. It is a sign that their project is finished. However, it is so much more than a project, and something that many don't understand. Not being raised in the livestock industry myself, I didn't understand it for the longest time. You see, it is so much more than a project.
The chosen animal was worked with, often pampered, and built a bond with a child. Their time on earth was spent building strong youth and teaching some hard life lessons; lessons about perseverance, patience, responsibility, caring for others, hard work, success, failure, investment, and the list goes on. The project was not something you could just slap together and expect to have success.
Families bond, confidence is built, and grit pours out in the longs hours spent all summer long in the barn. Our 12 year old daughter is wise beyond her years when she says, "We take care of them, and they take care of us."
This is the life of a 4H kid. If you ever get the chance, I encourage you to walk through the barns, talk to the youth, and ask them about their projects.
It won't take you long to see it is not just a project. Despite knowing the end result for their market animal, it stings.
The tears signify the blisters on their hands, the late nights, early mornings, and heart that they put into their "project".
Today I watched our 2 daughters walk into the ring with pride one last time to present their animals to perspective buyers.
Addison is watching from the stalls in preparation for her turn to hit the showring.
I think this Father's Day weekend was a success. There were lots of smiles, some tears, a lot of teamwork, friendships, and family. Tillie made her debut in the ring with the help of a friend as she joined Olivia in Pre-PeeWee showmanship. Hattie has gained some confidence and shown she has what it takes to be in the ring. She was called back in for finals and we are so proud of her. Addison did a lot of showing this weekend and leads by example. Her sisters look up to her. She also gave her speech and received a prospect award which encourages youth to build a strong resume starting at a young age.
The results are in… 4 class winners, 3 division winners, 1 reserve division, 1 Grand Champion Heifer. Addison showed up and put it all on the line. Yale didn't do too bad either for an old guy. Grateful for all of the help and support. It takes a village.
Tomorrow they will not be doing sight seeing in Harrisburg, PA because Addison and Mercedes will be in the Supreme Drive at Keystone representing the Hereford breed. What an experience this will be!

We have made it home from a great trip to the Hereford Junior Nationals in Louisville, KY. Addison had a stellar week participating in various activities and bringing home some hardware. Hattie was able to take part in the Queen's Tea, and Olivia and Tillie were in on the action with the cattle. We were able to spend time with old friends and make new ones. We are grateful for all of the help we received both with kids and cattle, as well as the stall fairies that would drop in when the cattle were on their way to tie-outs.
Addison placed 6th with her cow calf pair and 2nd in class with her bred and owned calf, Fern. These were both respectable placings at a National show, but the excitement continued when Addison won her class with her owned heifer. The cheers caught the judge off guard. She then returned to the ring with Mercedes to win her division as well. This put her in the Grand Drive at the end of the show. To say Mercedes was over it was an understatement, but Addison stuck with it along with some great ring help.
Our way home was eventful as we blew 2 tires (Yale also blew one on the way to the show). We pulled off in Indy and got new tires on the trailer, we are grateful we are all safe and made it home. Slow down and pull over, nothing like feeling like a sitting duck along side the road.
